Overview

We eat food for many reasons.

Food can warm you up on a cold winter day or cool you down on a hot day. It can be eaten to cheer you up, as a reward, or simply as a reason to enjoy the company of family and friends. But these are secondary benefits.

The most obvious and fundamental reason for eating food is that the body needs it for growth. Food gives the body warmth, repairs cells, supplies energy and keeps it healthy. Food, along with oxygen, is a vital part of our life support.

Because food is so vital for our well-being, it is important that the food you prepare is safe to eat, nutritious and healthy. Not to mention tasty and impeccably presented!

In this unit you will learn how to:

• Prepare and present foods to meet basic nutritional needs
• Prepare and present foods to meet special dietary requirements
• Prepare foods to satisfy specific cultural or religious needs.
