Overview
If you've ever worked for an employer, you'll be familiar with rosters and how they are used by all types of businesses. Rosters inform staff when they are required to turn up for work, for how long, when they need to take breaks, and often even the location they are required to go to.
For management, rosters are a valuable method to ensure that sufficient staff with appropriate skills and experience are on board to provide the necessary level of service required for each shift.
For a manager, the development of effective rosters is one of the most difficult tasks to perform because their success relies on forecasting, estimation, research of previous
trading periods, and to some degree, guesswork.
If rosters are incorrect, managers run the risk of over- or under-staffing their business. Each of these scenarios has associated consequences, both of which can result in unhappy customers and staff.
Effective rosters aim for optimal efficiency and service quality, while balancing the needs of the enterprise, employees, tasks and customers, within pre-determined labour budgets.
In this unit you will learn how to:
• Develop staff rosters
• Present and communicate rosters
• Maintain staff records
• Evaluate rosters. |
